October 12, 2023 (five days after the massacre): Susan Brotman, a major UW donor, alerted UW President Ana Mari Cauce to an email sent to Washington State Governor Jay Inslee about “a mob of terrorist supporters” planning “to hold a [pro-Hamas] rally on campus, creating a hostile and unsafe environment for all Jewish and Israeli students.” President Cauce forwarded the message to Randy Hodgins, the university’s VP of the External Affairs, who responded, “First amendment is hard sometimes.”
