Universities’ Positive Actions To Address Campus Antisemitism
- Proposals to divest from Israel were rejected at the Univ. of Virginia and Wesleyan Univ. (Sept. 2024); Brown Univ. (Oct. 2024), Univ. of Maryland and Williams College (Nov. 2024); Univ. of Maine, Univ. of Wisconsin, Johns Hopkins Univ., Rhode Island School of Design, Duke Univ., and the student government of Binghamton Univ. (Jan. 2025).
- The president of Clark University (Worchester, MA) issued a statement disavowing BDS and saying that the school’s endowment is not a tool for expressing political views or advancing specific interests (Dec. 2024).
- Duke Univ. Advisory Committee on Investment Responsibility (ACIR) rejects divestment proposal (Dec. 2024)
- Hamilton College adds Jewish studies minor (Jan. 2025)
- Updated policies for protests and time, place, and manner restrictions for “expressive activity” at many universities, including Ohio State, Northwestern, Rutgers, Franklin & Marshall, Indiana Univ., Carnegie Mellon, Emory, California State and Univ. of California systems, Univ. of Virginia, Princeton, James Madison Univ., NYU (which specifically addressed the term “Zionist”), Univ. of Pennsylvania, Univ. of Texas at Austin, and Univ. of South Florida.
- Univ. of Texas at Austin established a new Event Readiness and Response team and investigated students arrested during protests for possible violations of UT’s Student Code of Conduct (June 2024).
- New York University established a new position, Title VI Coordinator, to oversee NYU’s compliance with issues concerning discrimination and harassment based on race, color and national origin. (Sept. 2024). The Univ. of Pennsylvania established a Title VI center (Sept. 2024) and an an Office of Religious and Ethnic Inclusion (Jan. 2025).
- The Univ. of Pittsburgh is forming a working group on antisemitism (Jan. 2025)
- Wichita State student government passed a resolution denouncing antisemitism (Sept. 2024).

- Interview with Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier (42’), Call Me Back podcast with Dan Senior, Episode #286, November 17, 2024. Vanderbilt clearly articulated and forcefully enforced the simple and consistent principles of free speech, institutional neutrality, and civil discourse.
